Me and Kailey

Ready to go!

Welcome home

Kailey is home!

Kailey is home. It's been a long afternoon. I think the change in scenery and her going a little longer than usual without eating has her a little upset. She seems a little frazzled – too hungry to sleep and too tired to eat. All you parents out there are probably going, “Yep.” ☺

I'll post a couple of pictures of her in her "going home" outfit a little later. Right now I'm rocking, standing on one foot, making funny noises, you name it, anything to keep Kailey occupied so Gina can sleep.

Kailey coming home - Part 1

Gina's mom is staying with Gina tonight. I came home to do a few things around the house, like move items from upstairs in the nursery to our living room so Gina won't have to do stairs while she heals.

When I walked in the house, I noticed the items we'd left out when we headed to the hospital four days ago. My mind jumped to the thoughts I had had when I glanced back at them before leaving. They were anxious thoughts. Life was changing - but did I want it to? How would the next few days go? Would Gina be OK? Would the baby be healthy? Would I come home exhausted? Overwhelmed? Scared? I liked the freedom of not having kids - how would I handle parenthood?

When I walked into the house this evening, all of those feeling were there. But they were overshadowed.

I’m sure paternal instinct has kicked in. I’m sure I’m still running on a bit of adrenalin. I’m sure there will be some days when I will really miss not having the responsibility of kids. But right now, I’m only thinking about Gina and Kailey and I want them to be here with me. Right now, one feeling is overpowering all the others - I’m glad I’m a dad.

22 minutes after she was born, Kailey looks up at me as I put my hand on her head

Sunday Night - 48 hours later

Hey Guys,

Mom and baby are doing good...besides some fussy eating, no problems. We get to go home Tuesday morning. We had a few enjoyable visits with firends today and Kailey was great for all of them. We're ready for sleep though :).

Here are a couple of pictures from today.

That's all folks

Facts about Kailey

She is our first
She is the first Robertson born in 30 years (a baby born to male in our family of Robertsons)
She has 5 male cousins...no female cousins
She has 2 blood aunts, 2 blood uncles and 2 uncles by marraige
She has all 4 of her grandparents
She has one great grandparent
Her middle name, Elizabeth, has been in Gina's family for four generations
The name Kailey (spelled several ways) is found in several languages and countries. The English origin means "laurel" or "crown." In Greek, it means "keeper of keys." The Welsh name mean "slender." It's also a sir name found in northern India. We had talked about using the name "Laurel" several years ago, but decided it sounded too "60s." When we found a name that meant laurel, it caught our attention. I liked that it was found around the world and in a country I'm particularly interested in, India. We weren't for sure until we saw her though. She looks like a Kailey. :)
She has a dog named Copper
She's going to be spoiled

Saturday Night - 24 hours later

Hi All,

Just a quick update. Thanks so much for so many kind words and emails. Gina and I have been overwhelmed by your well wishes.

24 hours after delivery, Gina and baby are doing great. Kailey is sleeping great and not being fussy at all. She's having issues feeding, which is our only concern. Other than that, all of the tests, and what we're experiencing, points to her being healthy.

Gina is still in some pain. The IVs and Epidural are out, but her stomach is pretty sore. She took a shower tonight. I'm afraid she may have over done it and will pay for it tomorrow.

Northside has been great. When the AC in our room got stuck on high (seriously) and it became a wind tunnel, they gave maintenance a few minutes to fix it and then moved us to another room.

Gina thinks she would like to have visitors tomorrow. We're in room 571 (Northside). Just give us a call. I think visitor hours start around 11:00am.

Here are a couple of pictures from this afternoon. She's a cutey (if I don't say so myself).

Occasionally grumpy :)

Thanks Dr. Garcia!

After a couple of years of trying, and a couple of doctors, a friend referred us to you. You diagnosed and treated the issue and 12 months later, we're parents.

Kailey Elizabeth

Kailey Elizabeth Robertson is here! She was born at 7:48pm via a c-section. 7 lbs, 6oz. - 20.5 inches. It was a LONG day. Gina was incredible. They decided on the c about 22 hours after we arrived at the hospital. They stopped and started Pitocin several times. Each time they started it, the baby’s heart rate would drop significantly. They finally decided the Pitocin wasn’t going to work so moved to the c. We spent a long time in recovery and then had to wait on a room :(. Everyone is fine, but pretty wiped out.

For those of you planning on a visit, I think Gina wants to hold off until Sunday.

Thanks for your prayers!

Baby is here!

Baby arrived at 7:48pm after a long few hours and then a c-section. Mom and baby are great. Details in a couple of hours.

Friday 4:30pm update

Epidural is in. About 50% dilated. Tired but resting. (Jason is good - happy Gina is comfortable).

Friday morning - still waiting

We've got another two hours before they can start the Pitocin (and so labor). Last night they gave her a drug to start getting things ready for that and then some pain meds to counter that. Anyway, Gina is groggy, but fine. She's doing as good as you can be hooked up to monitors and having nurses come by every hour or so. We both got a little sleep.

Just before they started her meds.

At the hospital

We're at the hospital. Checked in around 9:00pm. Gina's still doing great. We just found out she's going to be on one med for 12 hours before they can even start the Pitocin, which causes contractions. So, our Friday is going to be a lot longer than we thought :(. Things won't really get going until noon :(. But the hospital room is great and we're comfortable.

Gina getting ready for a short night and day (we hope! :)). Can you believe how good and calm she looks?
